| Sunday is traditionally a day for recovering from the night before and for catching up on sleep, except that it was 7am and my alarm was going off – show season had officially begun… I managed to drag myself out of the comfort of my bed and headed off to Lakeside services to meet the convoy. |
| I made it to Lakeside about 8.40am to find James there already – he’d been there an hour by that point because of the Marathon. Woody arrived a little while later, followed by the A12 convoy. We stood around chatting waiting for the last few J29ers to arrive, during which time a procession of coaches decided to try to obliterate James’ mk3, my Lupo & then Woody’s mk1… |
| We arrived at the show in spectacular “Fast and the Furious” style, all pulling up along side each other. Almost everyone managed it… |
| Never being one to miss an opportunity to buff, Justin decided to give his car yet another coat of polish. Within half an hour, everyone else had followed suit. Big thank you to Paul for helping me polish the Lupo! |

As the weather started to pick up, so did the crowds. Whilst stood around chatting, a little silver Lupo came through the gates making an interesting sound… Everyone wandered over to where it was parked & after a little coercion, its owner opened the bonnet. Our ears had not deceived us – it was supercharged. I think I must’ve stood chatting to it's owner for at least an hour! |
| As the day went on, more J29ers arrived - sensible people, they’d all realised that 7am on a Sunday was far too early to be getting up! By mid afternoon, everyone was starting to falter… a combination of sunburn and tiredness was taking its toll. Nick & I decided to test the air conditioning in his car, which ended up being a little jaunt around the back roads of the industrial estate, complete with roadside suspension adjustment! |
| We then returned to the show, where yet more J29ers had arrived. More chatting ensued. |
| Before we knew it, it was then time for the van push & the pie eating competition. Unfortunately, J29 didn’t enter either competition. Our only worthy representative for the pie eating competition had already gone to play golf, full up with free burgers!! |
| Then it was time for the trophies to be handed out. The silver supercharged Lupo won Best Engine and Justin won his first trophy of the season – Best Watercooled. Congratulations! |
| All in all a most enjoyable day – apart from the sunburn! |
